Eulogy

Today at the young age of 58 a hero lost his battle with cancer. Bill Scott, more readily known in these parts as Bill the Beerman passed away today and I must admit that it caused a twinge in my heart. He started out as a bartender on Capital Hill who needed another job in 1976. He found work at the newly opened Kingdome as a beer vendor.

"I'd show up start vending, 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, once we stopped vending that would be for me a chance to go play with the crowd"

Much like a lot of the folks in the Pacific Northwest I am a Bill Diciple. He believed that the crowd and the energy that it created could will its team to win.

"People do create energy. You could see the bolts of energy bounce off the top of the Kingdome. It does affect the outcome of the game"

If there was an embodiment of The 12th Man it was Bill, who during his latter years performed as a Synergy Facilitator for free (he worked in such a capacity for the Portland Trailblazers).

If it is true, and I believe it is, that the Seattle Fans are the loudest in the NFL. The catalyst for this was Bill Scott. Thank you Bill for helping a young boy realize the effect his passion for the game could have on his home team.

Very sad. Always a pity when an icon dies...
